About this worksheet
“Compare Fractions” is sheet 13 of 32 in our free 3rd Grade Math Worksheets collection, written for children aged 8–9. It focuses on comparing fractions.
In the set it comes after “Name the Fraction” and before “Area and Perimeter”. Working through them in that order, one sheet a day, builds the skill a step at a time.
What this worksheet practices
3.NF.A.3 · Common Core Math · Grade 3
Number & Operations — Fractions
Children work on understanding fractions as numbers, finding equivalent fractions and comparing them, and, in grade 4, adding fractions and multiplying them by whole numbers.
How to use this worksheet
- 1
Time the fact sheets once a week and chart the times. Beating last week is more motivating than any score out of thirty.
- 2
Before "Division as Sharing", share real objects — twelve crackers among three plates. Dividing is easier to understand when a child has done it with their hands.
- 3
On "Area and Perimeter", ask your child to trace the perimeter with a finger and count the squares inside separately. Mixing the two up is the most common error.
