About these kindergarten reading & writing worksheets

How to get the most out of them

Work the sound sheets in order: beginning sounds, then ending sounds, then CVC. Middle vowel sounds are the hardest to hear, so they come last for a reason.

Sight words are memorised, not sounded out. Five minutes a day beats one long session — these are the words like "the" and "said" that break phonics rules, and they only stick with repetition.

On "Clap the Syllables", clap with your child rather than watching. Syllable awareness is physical before it is intellectual, and joining in gives them the beat to copy.

Keep "Draw and Label". It is the first writing task with a real purpose, and children who label their own drawings start writing sentences noticeably sooner.
