How to get the most out of them

Time the fact sheets once a week and chart the times. Beating last week is more motivating than any score out of thirty.

Before "Division as Sharing", share real objects — twelve crackers among three plates. Dividing is easier to understand when a child has done it with their hands.
- 3
On "Area and Perimeter", ask your child to trace the perimeter with a finger and count the squares inside separately. Mixing the two up is the most common error.

- What math should a 3rd grader know?
- By the end of 3rd grade children are expected to know their multiplication facts to 10 × 10 from memory, divide using those facts, add and subtract within 1,000, understand unit fractions, and find area and perimeter. These sheets cover each of those.
- How can my child learn multiplication facts faster?
- Start with the 2s, 5s and 10s, then use known facts to reach new ones: 6 × 7 is double 3 × 7. Short daily practice with mixed facts works better than one long session with the facts in order.
