About this worksheet
“The New Bridge” is sheet 24 of 27 in our free 4th Grade Reading Comprehension Worksheets collection, written for children aged 9–10. It focuses on point of view, one of two sheets in the set on that skill.
In the set it comes after “Monarchs: Tiny Travelers” and before “Solar Power”. Working through them in that order, one sheet a day, builds the skill a step at a time.

RL.4.6 · Common Core English Language Arts · Grade 4
Reading: Literature · Craft and structure
Children work on recognizing who is telling the story or what the author wants to say, and how that shapes the text.

How to use this worksheet
- 1
Ask your child to underline evidence in the text before answering. Fourth grade answers should quote or point to the text.
- 2
For the poem and the play, read them aloud together. Structure is easier to notice when you hear it.
- 3
After each passage, ask for a one-sentence summary. It is the quickest check of understanding.
