About this worksheet
“Research Notes: An Animal” is sheet 30 of 30 in our free 3rd Grade Writing Worksheets collection, written for children aged 8–9. It focuses on research, one of two sheets in the set on that skill.
It is the last sheet in the set and follows “Poetry: Diamante Poem”, so it works well as a check once the earlier sheets feel easy.

How to use this worksheet
- 1
Talk through the plan out loud before writing. A child who can say their three reasons will write them far more easily.
- 2
After the planner, copy the paragraph onto lined paper. Keeping planning and writing separate is how 3rd graders learn to organise ideas.
- 3
Use the CUPS checklist on every piece of writing, not just the sample paragraph.
