How to get the most out of them

Talk through the plan before writing. A child who can say their reasons out loud will write them more easily.

Use the ARMS revising sheet on any piece of your child’s writing, not just the sample paragraph.

For the research planner, help your child find two different sources and compare what they say.

- Multi-paragraph opinion and informative essays, narratives with dialogue and description, short research projects, summaries and letters.
- How long should a 4th grade essay be?
- Usually three to five paragraphs: an introduction, two or three body paragraphs and a conclusion. The planners follow that shape.
